The Clay Bank Huts Story
Welcome to our story – a tale of turning dreams into reality amid the challenges of the times. Our journey began when we acquired our dream home just weeks before the onset of the Covid era, a stroke of luck that came with a 17.5-acre property. Inspired by the beauty of our surroundings and the abundant wildlife, we envisioned creating a haven for others to experience the magic of our everyday lives.
Despite facing hurdles in obtaining planning permission, we persevered, compromising and working tirelessly for months. Armed with a modest savings pot, we invested everything into our vision.
Our First Shepherds Hut Opened in 2023
Our journey began in 2021, and after overcoming numerous challenges, we proudly opened our doors in 2023 with one shepherd hut. By June of the same year, we expanded to two huts and later introduced three Eco pods in August, thanks to the expertise of Cosy Pods, a company run by my brother and his son. With planning secured for an additional shepherd hut, we eagerly anticipate its construction this year.
We take pride in being a tranquil and intimate site, intentionally excluding groups and parties. Our aim is to share the serenity, simplicity, and peace of our location, providing a space where guests can escape the stresses of daily life.
We Offer Enduring and First Class Hospitality
Beyond our accommodations, we extend our hospitality to camping pitches for walkers, welcoming dogs on leads. We recently planted over 30 trees to enhance the natural beauty of our woodland backdrop. Situated on the Coast to Coast, Cleveland Way, and Lyke Wake Walk routes, our location provides access to diverse walking and cycling trails for all skill levels.
For those eager to explore, we offer free cycle hire, allowing guests to discover nearby villages and towns like Stokesley and Great Ayton without relying on a car. Additionally, we provide a continental breakfast and pack lunch option, as well as local take-away deliveries.
